Throughout 2010 I was working in collaboration with York based portrait artist, Thomas Rimmington on his exhibition project, “Face of the Community” – a community arts project which focused on the stories and lives of Walmgate residents and culminated in a series of portraits, video interviews and short excerpts form stories.
I was really very excited to be working on this project with Tom as I had been volunteering and working with Space 109 on Walmgate since 2006 and felt a definite closeness with the venue which was to be the first the first venue for the exhibition and the people who lived nearby, volunteered and worked there.
Beyond this, the project provided Tom and I an opportunity to push our skills and work on a project which had art at its very roots.
I have to say thank you to Tom for getting the funding and for finding some excellent venues in Space 109 and the University of York’s Norman Rea Gallery.
