A big thank you to everyone I have worked with over the last few years – your projects and ideas have been so very memorable. Especially thanks to everyone who has been kind enough to provide me with a testimonial to be featured on this website, and now in the newest showreel.

Event Coverage: Head Resourcing’s “HR Leaders Forum”
Following on from some of my work with the Tech Togeth a team, Nick Middleton, manager of award winning Head Resourcing’s Leeds office invited me to film their new events, the HR / Resourcing Leaders Forum.
The first event in Leeds took place in the first week of July 2011. Attending were representatives of Virgin Money and one of the UK’s leading execution-only brokers, TD Waterhouse, amongst others. At this event, founder and CEO of the Chemistry Group, Roger Philby took the delegates through an in depth fact filled presentation about the science of good recruitment.
After the session, delegates were available to chat and network over sparkling wine and drinks, some of which were kind enough to speak to me about their experience at the event for the video which can be seen in full or in summary form on the Head Resourcing YouTube page.

Evolution of language: the use and misuse of the term ‘social media’.
I wanted to write a blog post on something which has been bugging me for some time now. As someone who enjoys being a pedant every now and then I’d like to exercise my right to grumble about the use of ‘social media’ as a generic blanket term for what we called ‘social networking’ only a few years ago.
I understand that media is much easier to say than networking and has one less syllable, but the fact of the matter is that by calling a social network social media the definition is outright wrong from the word go.
To argue my case I’d like to copy and paste some dictionary definitions which define the three words, social, networking / network and media.

In talks with NCEM to deliver a second year of social media workshops in Bridlington as part Musicport 2011 on Humberside Police’s ‘Not Just Noise’ social network
Thanks to the friendly guys at LazenbyBrown, a York based creative agency, I was put in contact with the National Centre for Early Music who were working with Music4u’s Youth Music Action Zones and Humberside Police in 2010. These organisations were working together on a social network which has been set up as a safe and monitored platform to promote a positive image of young people in Yorkshire and Humberside. The social network, called ‘Not Just Noise’ provided the ideal way for students at Headlands school in Bridlington which has been working on the UKs largest indoor world music festival, Musicport in the past to engage with web content to promote the event in 2010.

KhaoZ Media write a blog on my recent work in Finland on the Youth4Politics project and my work with the group
I had a welcome surprise recently when I was asked to speak about my recent trip to Finland where I was working as a media trainer on a European ‘train the trainer’ project where we had 26 young people from Europe who came to Helsinki for a week of media training and exploration of the topic of young people and politics.
We split into two video production groups and one journalism group who ensured that all content was on a blog written about the project called Youth4Politics.

YSJ Connect Filming With York St John Volunteering Officer
On Thursday 3rd February 2011 I contributed to the exciting YSJ Connect project which I had previously worked on way back when we were developing the first aspects of the project which was developed by Abhay Adhikari along with York St John in 2009 – 2010. Thanks to the YSJ Connect team for having me on board that day – it’s great to see the project evolving into the success it was imagined to be.

Mind the Gap Theatre – Media Project Screencasts, “iMovie’s Finished Features – Colour Balance, Audio Fixes and Image Stabilisation”
For my second media project at Mind the Gap, I worked with the Making Theatre group again and we took the skills we developed during the December 2010 Digital Stories project and improved on them. The second project involved us using video as well as photographs, and planning interviews, picking topics and deciding on different editing styles. You can read …

ACE Hostel York – Brand Development, Media, Social Networking and Profile Boosting
Since September 2010 I have been working with Brian Taylor, manager of Ace Hostel York to explore the Hostel’s personality and offerings through blogs, audio and video in order to improve the hostel’s standing online.
