KhaoZ Media web video commission for Venturefest 2011′s Keynote ‘The Big Debate on ‘Local Enterprise Partnerships’

It’s been a great year of successful commissions for me – both as an individual and on the projects I work, volunteer and contribute to. One of the highlights for me has been some of the more commercial and corporate successes with KhaoZ Media, a voluntary project I contribute to in York.

Following on from my work in 2010 with Venturefest 2010 where I interviewed participants, speakers and event organisers with fellow entrepreneurial spirit, Dom Smith, editor of Soundsphere magazine, I kept the lines open with the event and in 2011 was able to work with the organisers again to deliver a live web video stream of the main keynote event. The discussion, which featured an impressive line up

My blog for KhaoZ Media from Channel 4 / 4Talent’s ‘Inspiration on the road’ day at Manchester’s Zion Centre

Thanks to KhaoZ Media, who I worked with on the Channel 4 / 4Talent commission in March 2011,I’ve been able to write a blog post on the day on the KhaoZ Media website.
In the blog I had the chance to detail the process which I went through to edit a 60 second news show which was written by our young participants from North West schools and filmed on the day with support from KhaoZ Media.

Channel 4 Commision for KhaoZ Media as Part Of “Inspiration On The Road”

In December 2010 I responded to a tweet from Channel 4′s, Katie Edwards which was retweeted by 4talent. The tweet was a simple call for submissions to deliver a one day workshop in Manchester’s Zion Centre for a group of young people as part of the “Inspiration on the Road” initiative.
A company had already been commissioned to deliver a workshop on media production, so Channel 4 were looking for a workshop on another aspect of production that was fun and engaging.

Yortime Web Surgeries: Free Web Surgeries For York charities

In 2010 an opportunity developed to work on what was a short-mid length project which lasted for the majority of the year. The Yortime Web Surgeries was the second project in 2010 that I worked on which was funded by the NIACE Transformation Fund.

In late 2009 Abhay Adhikari arranged for some free workshops to come to York under the banner of “Social Media Surgeries”, which at the time was a national movement gathering strength in a few cities and has since moved to become a global movement with it’s own bespoke website made by Birmingham’s Podnosh.

Inspirational Indian Cooking with Sharmini Thomas at York High School

A natural people person, Sharmini has been teaching cookery for City of York Council’s Adult and Community Education for over ten years – and its shows! The inspirational cook made the session fun, exciting and relaxed with the young aspiring cooks and their parents sharing the demands of the kitchen.
I attended Sharmini’s last session before the school summer holidays to produce the following video as part of KhaoZ Media’s “Community Short” range of videos.

York Peace Festival 2010 – AudioBoo Audio Updates and Promotional Video

2010 saw the first Peace Festival in York since 2001 and in the following years some of the team founded York’s Green Festival before the Peace Festival returned.

The Peace Festival featured a day of live music on two stages, dancing, stalls and much more. With a variety of areas such as the Chillout area and the Workshop area, thousands of people were attracted to Rowntrees park for the activities which left the park with little room for maneuver.
Dylan George who owns Millers Yard worked tirelessly to bring the festival to life and recruit a small army of volunteers to contribute their time, services and music in aid of a relaxing day for the community.

Facilitation for Graduates Yorkshire Conference on “Graduate Recruitement and Retention In The Yorkshire Region” 2010

My work with KhaoZ Media sometimes involves conference coverage usually through live broadcasts or “as live” broadcasts.
We’ve found a few jobs through Twitter and online social networks – but not many. For the Graduates Yorkshire conference on “Graduate Retention and Recruitment in the Yorkshire Region”, we found this neat little project via a tweet which we responded too.

“Explore Media” Featured in Final Reports for National Government Funded Project and Celebration Film

From September 2009 – March 2010 my role with KhaoZ Media involved working the rest of the team to develop and deliver a series of Community Media workshops and a roadshow which spent days at various City of York Libraries and Heritage as part of the NIACE: Promoting Adult Learning and BIS: The Department for Business Innovation and Skills supported Transformation Fund.
You can see some of our final content from the project on KhaoZ Media’s YouTube Explore Media playlist here.

Reflections on “Older Persons Music in Care Homes” Community Film Through A Commercial & Corporate Film Maker’s Eyes

In the last month I’ve worked on so any projects I’ve not stopped. It’s been a fantastic whirlwind. I’ve really come to grips with managing amends with clients as well as struggling with the difficulties of balancing community film emotional commitments with the reality of having to view it as an edit job and just get on with it.

Community film and commercial film are entirely different animals, but both come with their own needs and requirements.
